Adjusting the Law on the State Border of the Republic of Moldova

Regulation of legal, organization, administrative and other relationships arising during crossing the border. (Law of the Parliament on state border of the Republic of Moldova No.215 dated 04.11.2011)

The Law on the State Border is a part of the program on integration of the legislation of the Republic of Moldova with the legal framework of the European Union.

The law establishes the conditions and procedures of entry of foreign citizens into the Republic of Moldova, which were previously lacking in the legislation.

In accordance with the provisions of the law, the border police may in exceptional case require submission of certain documents that are necessary to justify the purpose of the trip.

Thus, the following documents will be required for business travel:

- invitation from the enterprise, organization or institution;

- documents, demonstrating economic interest (such as power of attorney, employment agreement, tickets or invitations for exhibition participation).

For trips with educational purpose:

- document on enrollment in an university or other educational institution;

- student card or a certificate of the attended course.

For trips with tourist or private purpose:

- tourist voucher;

- document confirming hotel accommodation, an invitation from the receiving party, in which the guest’s accommodation address will be indicated,

- booking confirmation in case of an organized trip or any other appropriate document indicating the program of the proposed trip;

- return ticket.

For trips made for political, scientific, cultural, sports purposes to participate in activities of religious nature, or for any other reasons:

- invitations, entrance tickets, programs, where, if possible, the name of the host organization and the duration of stay are indicated or any other appropriate document indicating the purpose of the visit.

For trips made for the purpose of boarding, landing and repatriation of a crew member:

- seaman’s identity card.

The law of the Parliament on the state border of the Republic of Moldova No. 215 dated 04.11.2011 is published in the Official Gazette No. 76-80/243 dated 20.04.2012.

The law comes into force from 01.07.2012.

Since its entry into force: the Law on the state border of the Republic of Moldova No. 108-XIII dated May 17, 1994 shall be deemed void.

In pursuance of the Law on the state border of the Republic of Moldova No 215 as of 04.11. 2011, by the head of the Border Police was approved the Order that enacts: "Regulations on the sealing" and "Regulation on the establishment of procedures for refusal of entry to Republic of Moldova and denial of entry."
